Rooted in Leadership · Phase 3

It Has to Roll Away.

Follow tonight’s Bible Study from Joshua 5 as we examine how God prepares leaders through consecration, healing, remembrance, changed provision, and surrender.

Big idea

Before God advances a leader publicly, He often prepares that leader privately.

“The past is meant to be a piece of history, not a place to live in.”

Tonight’s outcomes

  • Connect Joshua 5 to consecration, healing, remembrance, provision, and surrender.
  • Identify five leadership practices from Joshua’s example.
  • Name one “IT” that must roll away and one faithful next step for the next seven days.
01

Pause Before You Push

Israel crosses the Jordan, but Joshua does not rush toward Jericho. Obedience makes room for covenant renewal, vulnerability, rest, and healing.

02

Let God Roll Away the Reproach

God says, “I have rolled away.” Leaders guide people through obedience, but they do not pretend to be the healer.

03

Remember Before You Reach

Passover reconnects a new generation to God’s deliverance before the next battle begins.

04

Adapt When Provision Changes

Manna ceases, but God’s provision does not. The form changes, and Israel must steward what is now in its hands.

05

Surrender Your Command

Before Joshua receives strategy, he changes posture. God is not recruited into our agenda; our plans must bow to His command.

The GILGAL Leadership Practice

G

Get honest

Name the wound, shame, inherited pattern, or outdated method.

I

Invite God’s examination

Pray Psalm 139:23–24 and let Scripture expose motives and habits.

L

Learn without living there

Keep the lesson, but refuse to rebuild your identity around the pain.

G

Give God room to heal

Accept process, rest, counsel, accountability, and uncomfortable obedience.

A

Adjust to the new provision

Identify what has changed and steward what God has placed in your hand now.

L

Lead from surrender

Ask, “What does my Lord say to His servant?” before setting the plan.

Closing response

What is your “IT” that has to roll away?

Ask God to show you the truth to carry forward and the obedient action you will take within the next 24 hours.
